4 Steps for Resiliency When Facing Hardships in Your Business
Resiliency is a key factor when it comes to running a successful business. It’s possible there will be times in your business (not to mention your life) when you feel like you have a massive mountain that suddenly appeared in front of you and you have no idea how you’re going to scale it.
You may even be in the process of climbing and find that you’re losing steam or the motivation to keep going. You might even feel completely lost, desperately looking for a path you can navigate. No matter where you are in regard to that “mountain,” you need to tap into your resiliency.
Resiliency is defined as the ability to easily recover, adapt, or bounce back from misfortune, change, or stress. It can also represent a person's mental capacity to navigate hardship or trauma and adjust to a new normal.
What if you’re not feeling like a very resilient person? It can happen, especially when life is "lifeing" a little too hard. I have a 4-step process to help you tap back into and harness your resiliency so you can make your way over and off that mountain.
The 4 R's for Resiliency:
Remind yourself - think of the times when you’ve been resilient in the past, when you’ve overcome difficulties - whether in your business or life in general. Write down at least 3 instances.
Reduce stress - look at how you're handling the stress. Meditation, getting a massage, moving your body, breathwork, or walking in nature are all great ways to reduce stress. By reducing stress, you will be able to think more clearly and hear your inner wisdom better.
Realign your thoughts - this is where the alchemy lies - in shifting your thinking. Instead of focusing on the hardship, start thinking about what you can learn from the situation and how you can use that to come back even stronger. For example, instead of "The launch failed; it’s over," shift to "How can I pivot? What can I take from this in order to restructure and do better next time?"
Response - take a close look at how you're responding to the difficulty at hand. What can you do differently that will help you move forward?
It’s important to not get stuck in overwhelm or fear, which can sometimes be easy to do. It’s about checking in with yourself, realigning where you need to, and taking action so you can adapt or bounce back from the hardships that you need to navigate.
You are innately resilient - tap into that so you can move your business and your life forward.
To your inner growth & success,
Adrienne
